Welcome to this site about a fascinating railway!

The WC&PR was an unusual independent light railway linking three North Somerset coastal towns. First planned in 1884, it opened in 1897 and closed in 1940. It was quaint and colourful and was operated on a shoestring. The aim of this website is to give some idea of what the railway was like, based on old photographs, maps, and photos of today’s scene, and also to show where you can still find glimpses of the line today, and where it ran.

WC&P Railway Group

The WC&P Railway Group was launched in November 2006 for people interested in the Weston, Clevedon & Portishead Railway. We are dedicated to the preservation of this railway as far as is practicable, and of keeping the memory alive. We currently have about 160 members.
